From classic and simple to extravagant, if you are looking for a beautiful bespoke diamond engagement ring that will be treasured for a lifetime, or wanting to capture your moment in time with wedding bands that reflect you both, then your search is over. It is our honour to hand craft your engagement and wedding rings, therefore we will take you with us on the journey to designing and making your perfect rings for your special day.
Our strong relationship with trusted diamond and stone dealers means that we are able to source and show you a variety of excellent quality stones to choose from, and be transparent with their origins. Lots of options are available to you when deciding on your stone choices; natural coloured stones, natural diamonds, stones from specific mines, or lab grown diamonds.
Below are some examples of wedding and engagement rings we have done over the last few years.
FAQ's: How long does a bespoke ring take to commission? We aim to work on around 4-6 weeks from agreeing a design. This depends on how intricate the design may be, and what processes need to happen to it to achieve the desired outcome. Hallmarking alone can take up to two weeks to received back, so we would say if you are thinking about commissioning a ring, the sooner it can be discussed the better the timescale will be.
Do you work with heirloom stones? Yes, we have worked with and continue to work with inherited jewellery and gemstones. The condition of said stones will be inspected at an appointment and options of using them can be discussed at that point. Sometimes it isn't possible to use heirloom stones purely because of wear and damage, or size of stones for the design wanted.
Can our rings be engraved? Yes, we can have your rings hand engraved on the outside and inside for you. We prefer to hand engrave as opposed to laser engrave because of its appearance (it is much cleaner and precises) and because of its longevity.
Can I book an appointment to discuss commissioning a ring? Yes or course, please either contact us directly by phone or email, or even fill out the form on this page and we will be touch to organise meeting you at the workshop. We will always try to be as flexible as possible with timings. Failing that, you are always welcome to informally meet us at the shop - Harbour Smiths in Whitstable Harbour when we are open.
What metals do you work with? For rings like engagement and wedding rings we would always suggest precious metal; 9ct, 18ct gold and platinum, mainly because of their durability but also because future proofing the items. Using regularly used metals allows items to be resized and repaired at later dates without much worry. There is generally a reason as to why certain ring styles or metals are used infrequently, and that's because they aren't as practical as a wedding band or engagement ring needs to be. There are lots of different ways to add texture and finishes to metal to give them alternative looks if desired. We also have Rose Gold, Yellow Gold and Rhodium Plating tanks for finishing.
Do you redesign existing jewellery? Yes, we redesign and remodelling jewellery frequently. It is helpful if you have an idea of what you like, and what direction you might like the jewellery to look like when coming to an appointment to discuss any remodelling jobs.
